MISINTERPROTATO
"THE GENTLE WAR" NATIONAL TOUR
Stunning contemporary music trio Misinterprotato will be at Wollongong
Conservatorium of Music on Friday September 24, from 6pm, and
at The Basement, Sydney, on Monday September 27, from 9.30pm,
to launch their eagerly anticipated 4th album "The Gentle
War". Recorded in the serene surrounds of Tallebudgera and
then mixed in Minneapolis by Brent Sigmeth the resulting album
is a bold step forward for the group, cementing their place as
an ensemble with a truly individual approach to music making,
simultaneously thunderous and hushed, and remarkably compelling.
The Brisbane trio, comprising Sean Foran piano, John Parker drums
and Pat Marchisella acoustic bass, are no strangers to Brisbane
audiences but 2010 sees the group really begin to take off. Already
they've completed a tour of the UK, collaborative projects with
classical group Topology and dance company Expressions and will
tour this new album around Australia before heading to South America
in September for performances.
Their latest release "The Gentle War" features their
distinctive mix of dense rhythmic interactions and gentle melodic
statements. The shape-shifting grooves of Tailgater and Cute are
relentless while the meditative Blues for the Space and Interlude
bring out some truly beautiful melodic statements. The resulting
album is finely focused, intimate, and always daring.
They tour the album with support from the Sound Travellers program
with performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide,
Townsville, Wollongong, and the Gold Coast.
"...an absorbing performance from a band with an intriguingly
original approach to music-making". - The Vortex London Live
Review
"...part of the new wave of piano trios, citing influences
such as EST, The Necks and Radiohead. Emphasizing an ensemble
approach, they are more than comfortable cranking up the volume,
generating mesmeric and fluid runs, working in tight with each
other". - Live Review, Wangaratta Jazz Festival - The Age

MILDURA JAZZ FOOD & WINE FEST
The Mildura Jazz, Food and Wine Festival is a well established
event that has attracted many locals and visitors to the Mildura
district over the past thirty years. The Festival takes place
as an annual Spring-time event, presenting four days of round
the clock jazz entertainment in popular clubs, wineries, cafes,
restaurants and churches, as well as street side and riverside
venues, utilising unique Murray River settings and all events
showcasing regional food and wine.
The Festival, held from October 29 to November 1, combines Traditional
Jazz and Swing with more contemporary and quirky sounds and caters
to hardcore jazz enthusiasts and music lovers, not to mention
those who just enjoy sitting back listening to the music, soaking
in the ambiance of one of Mildura's paddle steamers, visiting
riverside wineries and parks and taking in the gourmet food and
locally produced wine. The Festival incorporates ticketed and
free events and provides a non-stop program that caters to the
tastes of all, attracting a growing number of visitors, as well
as local audience members. "We've got a great line up this
year." said Assistant Festival Director Erin Hoye "There
will be some old favourites as well as some fresh new bands."
In 2010 the Festival's major event, the free PRIMED for Jazz Street
Party, to be held on Saturday 30 October, will feature the South
Australian 17 piece Mike Stewart Big Band with Luke Thompson as
well as alfresco dining and two stages providing non-stop entertainment.
"We are so excited to be able to bring a big band to this
year's Festival" said Ms Hoye. "It's going to be hard
to top the Festival's 30th Anniversary last year - but we think
the Mike Stewart Big Band is just the thing to maintain the momentum
the Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival has been building over
the past few years."
The Festival is also thrilled to be welcoming Jazz Piano sensation
Pugsley Buzzard to perform on Friday 29 October. "The Joe
Chindamo concert last year was so successful that we just had
to have another piano concert this year." said Ms Hoye "Pugsley
Buzzard has been getting a lot of publicity lately and it is wonderful
that he can perform at our Festival." Pugsley Buzzard, piano
player and singer with a distinctive sound plays funky New Orleans
grooves, barrelhouse blues, Harlem stride and modern stylings
that feature loads of tantalising improvisations. Pugsley's shows
are exciting and captivating; at the centre is his huge mesmerizing
voice and dazzling piano playing delivered with a vaudevillian
nuance and humour.
2010 line up: The Mike Stewart Big Band featuring Luke Thompson,
Pugsley Buzzard, Pippa Wilson Swingtet, Gail Kingston and Hot
Foot Jazz, Maryborough Traditional Jazz Ensemble, Mr Jazz, Hot
Licks Trio and Don Mayne Quartet.
